Job Title: Gallery Monitor

Status: Part-time

Description

The Gallery Monitor will provide security services for the exhibitions in the galleries and other public spaces in the Museum.  Primary responsibilities include:  protection of the artwork, protection of the building and equipment, public safety and customer service.  Gallery Monitors assist Museum staff during events with set up and take down. 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Monitor visitor activity in the galleries and other public spaces in the Museum and adjacent plazas to ensure that Museum rules are followed and that the artwork is protected.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of daily security operations.
  • Provide written reports in accordance with department requirements documenting incidents at the Museum
  • Provide written documentation of the daily gallery operations that include all normal and non-routine activities.
  • Maintain positive and productive working relationships with the security team and all staff at the Museum
  • Set-up and takedown furniture and equipment as appropriate for Museum after hours events.
  • Provide professional and courteous communications and excellent customer service for all Museum visitors.  Address visitors who may not be following the Museum’s rules in a calm and respectful manner with the objective being to stop the unwanted behavior.
  • Provide active and creative problem solving for staff and visitor issues
  • Provide information on Museum exhibits and activities to visitors to enhance their experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Museum’s mission.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:  Graduation from high school with 1 year customer service experience required.  Museum experience preferred in addition to the following skills.

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Verbal and written fluency in English.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Computer proficiency.
